Tile designs go out of fashion much faster now than they used to. Pinterest says home trends are changing more than four times faster than seven years ago, and a lot of buyers look at Instagram before they even open a catalogue. If an importer picks the wrong designs, the container can end up sitting in the warehouse.
We make tiles in Morbi and export to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the UK, the US and Africa. Let’s understand where the tiles market is going.
1. Organic minimalism
At Coverings 2026 in the US, one of the main trends was what designers call organic minimalism. It means plain colors and soft stone textures, with no loud pattern on the floor.
For a container order, minimalist floor tiles are the safest choice. They go with almost any room, and they stay in fashion for a long time.
2. Marble that never leaves
Marble look is not going anywhere. At Cersaie 2026, a number of big Italian companies brought out new marble-effect ranges, a lot of them in large slab sizes.
In the Middle East, polished marble look tiles are still what most buyers ask for in villas, hotels, and malls. European buyers usually like softer veins and calmer colors.
3. Wood, but warmer
New wood-effect collections are also loved by all. Walnut and oak shades are the most popular, and herringbone and parquet layouts are there too. A wood look tile gives a bedroom or living room the feel of timber, without the upkeep of real wood.
4. Earthy stone and handmade looks
Grey is slowly going out. Even the colour names now we see are warm, like Calce, Creta, Argilla, Biscotto and Terracotta, which are lime, chalk, clay and biscuit shades.
Terracotta looks are back as well, with small marks and colour changes on purpose. Limestone and travertine now come in cream and sand shades instead of cool grey.
5. Large format floor tiles
With a large tile there are fewer grout lines on the floor, so even a small room starts to look bigger. In Europe, buyers often ask us for large format floor tiles in porcelain with a matt surface.
6. Matt floors, glossy walls
More buyers are moving to matt finish floor tiles. Dust and footprints don’t show as much, and the grip is better when the floor is wet. Many new homes pair a matt floor with a glossy wall tile in the same colour.
That doesn’t mean gloss is out. Some of the new glossy collections now have 3D effects, so the shine looks deeper than a flat polished tile. Polished floors still sell well in the Middle East and in dry indoor areas like living rooms.
7. Texture you can feel
Slim linear tiles, fluted panels and soft 3D surfaces used to be a niche product, but now they are showing up in regular collections. Most of these go on walls, and they look best next to a plain floor that doesn’t compete with them.
8. Bold patterns from social media
On social media the trend is going the other way. According to Pinterest’s 2026 report, homeowners want bolder rooms now, and searches for Afro-boho decor went up by 220%.
Chequerboard floors are still popular, though the colours are softer than the old black and white. Tiles inspired by the 70s, in olive, amber and dusty orange, have also come back. These usually go in one small room, like a powder room.
What this means for importers
Not every market follows every trend. The Middle East leans towards polished marble. Europe prefers matt stone, wood, and minimal designs. Buyers in Africa often want strong tiles at a fair price. In the US, quality and technical standards come first.
A smart order is a steady seller with a few trending tile designs that 2026 buyers are already searching for. Marble and wood bring regular sales. A few bold or textured designs help you catch new demand.
